Strawberry Mascarpone Tart / Erdbeer Mascarpone Tarte (All images: Condenast)

Most of my family and friends celebrate their birthdays in the summer (so am I), hence the question of what dessert to prepare for such occasions has always been an issue. Something cold but not ice-cream, something sweet but not chocolaty, a sweet that is light, slightly creamy and tastes a bit like summer.

‘Like cycles – seasons, days and nights in permanent repetition and movement. The basis for this collection lies in these two concepts.’ – said the Spanish designer, Justicia Ruano, who’s collection much stood out from the other showcased collections during Barcelona Fashion Week, exactly with it’s laid-back elegance. From the first to the last piece the garments could be worn by every woman who’s craving effeminacy and beauty and sees herself shining in purified designs of sleek lines. The designer strayed away from excess, yet rather decorated her designs with one-shoulder ruffles, tassels, pleats, sequins and mesh layering of soft sheer and lace. After her Spring/Summer 2013 collection Ruano continued to use a neutral palette that consists of nearly nude shades that injected a feeling of cleanliness and purity mixed effortless summer atmosphere. Which piece is your favourite?

Dutch model Cato Van Ee is starring the July 2013 lookbook of fashion label Mango and yet very literally rocking the leather biker jackets, combat boots and ripped denims. Since the festival season is constantly on we all want to add a sense of cool and edgy to our summer wardrobe, and that’s exactly what Mango has for us. Since the Kurt Cobain era I tend to think that blonde woman dressed in ripped jeans and chequered shirts are the hottest on Earth hence – in my opinion – Mango couldn’t have found a better model than Cato Van Ee who’s previously walked the runway from Miu Miu through Prada to Marni. Besides the pastels and sheer fabrics the grunge effect is definitely back this summer in terms of ripped and worn-out denim shorts and skirts, black leathers, boots matched with minis. How do you guys feel about it?

I’m sure you guys have read our previous posts on SilkSoFine’s Malta and Maldives holiday suggestions, this time we visited lovely Spain. The thing with Spain is that you have to feel it; it’s crowded and hectic, the people are loud and the food is not made after the latest diet fads…but it’s just perfect as it is.

City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia

City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia

We have stayed in the Province of Valencia where the view was nothing less than a beautiful city with a Mediterranean coastline backed by mountains and plains. The city itself is said to have some of the most beautiful architecture in Europe, from the historic through modern to the avant-garde. Ever since I saw pictures of The City of Arts and Sciences – which was designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava, a native of Valencia and who is now one of the world’s hottest architects – I couldn’t wait to visit this breathtaking masterpiece of modern architecture. (more…)

It’s rare to find a fashion story which you can fully identify yourself with; I’m not sure what happened – is it the location, the colours, the atmosphere or maybe the balanced mixture of these – but I fell in love with the visual series above. It’s summertime and the living is easy: bikinis, beaches, passports and smoking hot girls and boys. And what is the story trying to say? We cannot escape fashion, and we cannot do without architecture. We tailor to both. We all wear fashion and everyone needs architecture as a place to work or to live in. It’s like day and night, right or wrong, you and me…only perfect when it exists together; in harmony. Fashion photography in the 30’s discovered architecture and urbanity as a space that allows a freer and more dramatic fashion presentation. The fashion story above has a very individual approach to exaggerated proportions of colourful walls along the beach, tanned bodies almost getting lost in the humongous spaces, while still attracting attention to the tiny screenshots of the tanned body-parts. This visual story depicts fashion in unusual and spectacular spaces and yet blurs the borders between art, fashion and architectural photography. The bikinis showcased belong to the German designer Phillip Plein, whose swimwear pieces speak of new luxury, playful silhouettes and bright colour palette. We are ready to get lost in such places!

(more…)

Scuba diving and snorkelling are the main occupations and activities of tourists on the Maldives, the turquoise bays hide huge coral fields with rich underwater life where you can face to face meet hundreds years old turtles or peaceful (sometimes rather shy) reef sharks and of course numberless colorful fish colonies.
