This weeks post is about treasures and small shiny things, about minimalistic and opulent silhouettes, about off colors and Neon, it is about a fine selection of beauty essentials &other Stories. Last Wednesday, & other Stories opened the beautifully wooden framed doors to their second store in Berlin Mitte. Finally I got one of my favorite stores in the neighborhood and do not have to walk a million miles to get to enjoy the vibe of this concept store since their first store is situated on Ku’damm in Charlottenburg. However this space at Neue Schönhauser Strasse seems to be made for & other Stories and it fits perfectly into this scenario of high fashion and street fashion. (more…)

Despite the strong Scandinavian roots, Cheap Monday has conquered the world; the brand is currently available in more than 35 countries through about 2000 stores across the world. Ever since the time when the first 800 pairs of jeans with the characteristic skull logo hit the market, Cheap Monday has had a rapid growth and development while staying loyal to their signature denim goods and customer friendly price range. Smelling a tiny hint of rebellion, the Spring/Summer 2014 collection – that was shown during Stockholm Fashion Week last week – suggests confidence with an in-your-face aesthetic, channelling bold artists from the 90s and customers from the 21st century. Daring to take the coolest approach, the strong street-wear vibe didn’t fail to take over the collection, showcasing collage prints, prints on prints, patchwork looks, cut-outs, large details and gold – just like nowadays’ young crowd demands.
I’m sure most of you have heard about the H&M Design Award that supports the initiative of inviting students from 19 major fashion colleges in eight European countries to participate in a contest. Yearly, there are 24 students are given the opportunity to go to Stockholm to meet with H&M’s Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson and members of the design team in the first rounds, while in the second round the eight best designers get to show their collections in London. In 2012, Danish designer Stine Riis took the first price, while in 2013 the South Korean-born Antwerp-based designer Minju Kim won. Her collection ‘DEAR MY FRIEND’ explored the relationship of colours and textures by infusing the traditional with the contemporary in terms of techniques, shapes and cultural references. The Award aims to discover fresh talents from the best fashion universities all over the world, including: London, Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Milan etc. My personal message with this post is to encourage you to apply and try our yourselves in front of the big crowd if you are enrolled in one of the concerned universities.
(more…)
