Jil Sander Spring 2014 RTW (All images: Fairchild)

Jil Sander Spring 2014 RTW (All images: Fairchild)

In the last few years we have experienced a massive ‘they-come-and-go’ effect in case of creative directors at the biggest fashion houses; they switch, leave, disappear and might never come back or, on the contrary, they start to shine as a newborn stars under a different name – freshly. As always, there are exceptions – occasional comebacks. By now you might have already figured out that my flow of thoughts is referring to the latest breaking news about Jil Sander, who had now stepped down for the third time. While I would say – or rather bag – ‘Oh Jil, don’t go!’; Vogue already wonders, ‘Who Will Take The Reins At Jil Sander?’…The thing is though, that ever since she sold her company to Prada, back in 1999, she has not been sure whether she wanted to stay at all. As WWD reported, so far one name, Gabriele Colangelo, has come to the fore who took on the pared-back aesthetics, the precision of cut and apparently he is breathing the same minimalist air the brand has always been represented. She – Jil herself – gave us the women who is never over-decorated, by setting the standard for minimalism that was both courageous and inspiring yet most of all inimitable. The fashion lips say that the German designer is about to exit her eponymous brand due to personal reasons, and that is something we might never get to know for sure and we might actually don’t even need to do so…she deserves only our homage, no matter what. If you may apologise for getting too personal, I must say that this has been a real breaking news for us that brought some real sadness in its trail, but we know that she made her stamp on the fashion industry so firmly that it will never ever fade away. Thank you, Jil!

Currently ‘suffering’ from some post-fashion-week-syndrome, we are all thrilled, dazzled and exhausted, yet still are lively carrying each show and little detail in our heads and hearts. I’ll now make an attempt to sum up our last seven days briefly for you guys and more importantly provide a rather exciting visual treat with the usage of our own images taken by a Canon EOS M. Besides the tiredness, we are also dealing with the after effects of painful queuing in killer heels and zipping delicious alcoholic drinks, but despite all, we still wish that the season never ends.

Details from the streets of Milan

Details from the streets of Milan

This time we got to enjoy a few days of fashion madness in London, and thereafter in Milan for the very first time. Having previously lived in London, all the getting around went really smooth, mainly since most of the shows are concentrated at the Somerset House, as well as the designer showrooms that showcase an edit of contemporary and luxury designers over two floors to improve visitors’ navigation and ease. While in Milan it’s a bit like in Paris; in between the shows it’s a proper rush to get to one venue from the another, catching cabs and sort the maps.

Beloved details

Beloved details

Both cities though present the biggest names in fashion such as Mulberry, Burberry or Tom Ford in London, while Prada, Dolce&Gabbana and Valentino in Milan just to name a few, whereas in contrary to the big fashion houses, London also lines up the most refreshing and upcoming bunch of talents each season. Hence obviously there is a much bigger space for the underground scene in London; crazy blue hairs and eclectic styles strive to catch the press’ attention, while in Milan you rather spot hot brunettes arriving in heels and chic looks on red vespas wearing helmets.

On the streets of London

On the streets of London

To avoid cliches and generalisations there are argues for both; I mean London will always be the crazy, the dirty, the fun, the greatest place for the ‘anything goes’ belief. While in Milan there is an instant impulse due to the climatic zone and temperament; constant delays, matchless elegance, buzzing city life, the magical Duomo, the bella-s and ciao-s will make the Fashion Week stay unforgettable. Besides breathtaking shows, showrooms and great new connection, we enjoyed some rain and sun, croissants and cocktails here and there, the buzz around tastemakers, paparazzi, bloggers and celebrated stars. Thank you Spring/Summer 2014, you were such an unforgettable joy!

The ‘Real Fantasies’ series by Prada continues also for this coming fall season, picturing a  beautifully surreal, collage-like short film directed by once again the Rotterdam-based creatives, AMO. ‘The Characters perform in a world of distorted normality, a collection of everyday moments assembled together to form the film noir of commonness.’ Displaying profound romanticism, and the ambience of reality vs. fantasy, the short film merges urban animation with models in constant motion. Not to forget about its real point; the essence is captured through Prada’s sophisticated designs in terms of massive furs, slim waistlines and not least the suits&ties matches. Just like the movie, the looks also felt a little off balance; subtle illusions and a certain mystery  surrounded the collection itself – but in the end, as always, the whole is just to be seen as the ultimate form of perfection by Miuccia Prada. She made us curious, again.

I’m sure most of you have already seen the movie ‘The Great Gatsby’ – which is the awaited adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Great American Novel – hit the cinemas right during Cannes Film Festival. Instead of writing an overview about the movie, I’ll rather provide you with some fun facts on how this collaboration between director Baz Luhrmann, costume designer Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada came to life. Despite claims that the 20’s has never influenced her collections, Miuccia Prada’s design aesthetic proved to be the perfect match possible in party-dressing the crowd of actresses and most of all Daisy (Carry Mulligan), who’s looks suggested nothing but an excessive heaven in ‘The Great Gatsby’ costumes. As a great outcome, 40 sparkling twenties-style gowns from both Prada and Miu Miu archives were being adapted for the film. The Endless strings of pearls, a diamond head-piece, intricate jewel-encrusted rings were provided by Tiffany & Co. Such feast for the eye!

(more…)

parfumes ssf

Perfume is a bit like the ‘love at first sight’ cliche. It’s an intimate encounter between you and the fragrance. You only fall in love if the fragrance is blended perfectly for you, if you are the exact match. It’s a process as a fragrance becomes the part of one’s personality, but from then on that little bottle signifies your personal luxury. While you are young you experiment a lot; from fruity and sweet to the airy or even spicy scents. Probably I’m not the best person to give suggestions perfume-wise though; the truth is that since childhood I was involved in sports, so I always preferred something fresh and fruity but not cheap. Long time ago I voted for Yves Rocher’s coconut fragrance and that was love at first sight and still is, but it happened to be that I got a Coco Mademoiselle, which was the birth of my second love…

(more…)

An energetic explosion of collage animation, print mash-ups and funky soundtrack are the elements through Mat Maitland’s recalled a proper pop-jungle world. The soundtrack – courtesy of electro-pop artist Buffalo Tide – well followed the colour-vibes and rough movement-flashes in the video. (more…)

Max Mara Fall 2013 RTW

Max Mara (all images: fairchild)

Giant silhouettes and layers upon layers is what we definitely won’t forget from the AW13 Max Mara collection. The inspiration refers to the Bauhaus period both in its colour palette and cuts, matched with suede running shoes, has surely made a statement./ Gigantische Silhouetten und Vielschichtigkeit sind die Charaktereigenschaften, die wir definitiv nicht von der AW13 Max Mara Kollektion vergessen werden.
