Italian brand Marni was founded by Consuelo Castiglioni back in 1994, who has been the label’s designer ever since, and has made her designs renown of iconic luxury and edge through a modern approach to materials and silhouette, juxtaposing colour, exclusive prints and textures. Her latest Sping/Summer 2014 collection included straight mid-calf skirts, bandeau crop tops and trousers that were almost cartoonishly wide. You could almost split up the the collection to a ‘purist’ and ‘excessive’ group; the latter was speaking of even ruffles and beaded embellishments applied on bombers and pencil skirts matched with sporty bejewelled visors and statement neck-pieces. The group of ‘purists’ embraced floral prints applied on flowing sheers and a bunch of powder-coloured pieces on which ruffles only detailed the edges. By the way the speciality of the show was as – due to a technical problem – the catwalk show happened in proper silence yet resulted a concentrated appreciation towards the pieces in Milan. I guess we will be seeing the pieces in the coolest editorials quite soon!

Yet another big and beloved name, 3.1 Phillip Lim shown his collection during New York Fashion Week that we couldn’t help not reflecting on. Lim’s Spring 2014 collection is based around the idea of elements and the ecosystem, showcasing earth-coloured statements, while even having the runway made of salt crystals. To the question of ELLE whether he has always been interested in science, he answered the following: ‘Yes, I have! I am an evolutionary designer and find myself always thinking it must all exist for a reason.’ The collection once again provided the ultimate in-s for the upcoming season regardless of any romantic summer flairs, it rather showcased raw landscapes, ‘a brute yet beautifully charged ecosystem’ reflected on luxurious fabrics. Not to forget about styling, the mirrored Linda Farrow x Phillip Lim sunglasses only strengthened the edginess and volume of the structured pieces as the models feet slightly sinked in the pure white salt crystals as they down the catwalk.

The brand’s famous motto, ‘When your own initials are enough’ expresses a philosophy of individuality and confidence that now applies to a range of products including women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, fine jewellery, furniture, and much more what Bottega Veneta creates. Frankly, I loved their latest women’s collection far the most with all its subtly yet delicately twisted detailes, where the deep rusty bronze silks and organic wools were intricately constructed and precisely matched. Tomas Maier gave us a raw, luxurious woman; the seams were emphasised yet at the same time almost hidden, embellishment mash-ups decorated the prime quality textures, thus bringing us a whole new sophisticated world á la Bottega Veneta with a hint of contemporary coolness attached.
Das berühmte Motto der Marke, ‘When your own initials are enough’ (zu deutsch ‘Wenn die eigenen Initialen ausreichen’), bringt die Philosophie von Individualität und Selbstbewusstsein zum Ausdruck, die nun auf eine Reihe von Produkten angewandt wird, inklusive Frauen- und Männermode, edlen Schmuck, Möbel und vieles mehr, was Bottega Veneta kreiert. Without having a soft spot for Budapest – apart from the fact that I’m a proud Hungarian – I have to admit it’s truly one of the most beautiful european capitals. On the occasion of getting really close to the Toni&Guy Budapest Fashion Week, I have a last minute five-stars-hotel suggestion for you guys; as it’s stated on the hotels’s website with a bit of a poetical excess ‘all ways leads you to Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest‘, which is located in the very heart of Budapest near major attractions and shopping streets, and is easy accessible. The one-day-fashion event is the perfect opportunity for some fashion added luxurious treat in the hotel’s richly equipped spa or private art gallery. Spoil yourself with the leisure facilities of Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest after having seen some great Hungarian designs from: Je suis belle, Anda, Anh Tuan, Nanushka and Use Unused.
Ohne ernsthaft eine Schwäche für Budapest zu haben – abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass ich eine stolze Ungarin bin – muss ich zugeben, dass es eine der schönsten Hauptstädte Europas ist. (more…)
If you would like to define vintage fashion, strictly speaking, is clothing and accessories that are at least 25 years old and usually carry the signatures of the era when they were designed/produced. However this time frame has loosened recently and we consider much newer pieces vintage. Wearing vintage is a bit like living in a baroque house, or eating with hundreds-year-old gold cutlery; it has high historical and aesthetic value, it provides individuality to the wearer or owner due to its rareness. The goodwill value of vintage, in the business life, turns into tradable assets, which increase in value over time…This is how the whole collecting tradition works, whether we talk about paintings, vintage clothes or veteran cars. No matter if we consider vintage furniture, bags or jewellery, there is one truth, people fall in love with the history behind the pieces.
Versucht man Vintage Fashion zu definieren, so spricht man streng genommen von Kleidung und Accessoires, die mindestens 25 Jahren alt sind und üblicherweise den Stempel der Ära, in der sie designt/ produziert wurden, tragen. (more…)
Probably each one of us has weaknesses, which result the feeling of ‘wanting them all’; sweets, shoes, magazines, diamonds…at this time mine was the Valentino collection from the very first piece to the last. It was love at first sight. Usually people are selective and has particular view on what do they want to show to the audience, but this time I just could not be one – I wanted to show you all. The designer duo draw inspiration from the eponymous painting called Girl With a Pearl Earring from Vermeer. They wanted to capture women in a private moment, and probably this intimate approach to design for the women, for the muse led to such honest and beautiful collection.
Wahrscheinlich hat jeder von uns seine Schwächen, die in dem Gefühl ‘Ich möchte alles haben’ resultieren: Süßigkeiten, Schuhe, Zeitschriften, Diamanten… (more…)
