Whatever drives you; passion, hate, respect, envy, appreciation or fascination you cannot avoid the iconic name, Carine Roitfeld. A muse, a hero and a role model she in-personifies at once. I reckon that most of you shares my enthusiasm towards the much awaited movie, Mademoiselle C, that is a documentary focused on former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief and fashion stylist Carine Roitfeld – one of the most inspiring, authentic and inevitable woman of our era. Her words are blessed with thoughtfulness and honesty that touches you just like the following ones: ‘Vogue’s one of the biggest titles in the world, and when you get that title, you automatically get a sort of “crown” along with it. Not because of who you are, but because of the title you carry. So when I left Vogue, I gave back my uniform, my crown. But I’m not sad about it! I was there 10 years, and now, if I ever get another crown, it’ll be because of me—not because of where I work. Maybe this crown won’t be as beautiful, as full of diamonds…but I think it’ll be more personal, because I will have done it myself.’ If I would ever have to name an idol, it could only be her!
(more…)
Nowadays, kids and adults both admire sort of super heroes, having imagined that just for a day we can rule the world and do something big and be a saviour just like the heroes of cartoons and movies. There are many kinds of super heroes exist today and undoubtedly Karl Lagerfeld really is everyone’s fashion super hero. The cartoon version of the designer and his beloved pet cat Choupette return in the capsule collection tokidoki x KARL LAGERFELD, which features three figurines and apparel all-over printed with the playful caricatures. The creator of tokidoki, Italian artist Simone Legno, has worked in close collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld to create playful cartoon-like illustrations of the internationally-renowned designer. The caricatures have been printed on ready-to-wear apparel including t-shirts, skinny jeans and accessories including a clutch, scarves and iPhone cover. The limited collection is available at the Karl Lagerfeld concept stores in Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris, and on Net-A-Porter online. PS We hope this makes you smile;)
(more…)
And another beautiful collaboration is to be made with the French designer, Isabel Marant, which I’ve been really hoping for deep inside ever since H&M did its first collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld and afterwards with Stella McCartney back in 2005. What I love about Marant is that her designs carry the real aesthetics of a Parisian woman with all of her effortless coolness, chick edge and style, while suggesting this great easiness in attitude. Marant said to Elle earlier today: ‘Everything can be mixed following one’s own instincts: my take on fashion is all about personality’ – and I guess it explains a lot. Her signature style is all about glamour with a rock’n’roll edge, elegant yet androgynous, and this makes her designs very unique and contemporary, not to mention the genius way as she incorporates ethic details that people actually crave to wear in the 21st century. The collection will launch into store in 250 stores worldwide and online on the 14th of November. We’ll see you in the queue!
(more…)
Do you guys also remember the pastel lego-like shoes from Fendi, which were made manually out of luxurious leathers and were titled as the ‘fiercest feet-wear’? As for me, I’m absolutely obsessed with them…Designers Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi continued to add modern touches to the 88-year-old house’s traditions and style. There was something more sculptural than painterly about the silhouettes in the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, where elements of art deco were recognisable, all in a very modern and sophisticated sense. The colours applied in blocks, seamless finishing, delicate cuts were always one of Fendi’s own, but I call this collection perfection, where the laid-back twists won over showy. The garments, shoes and bags – all made by hand, of course – paid homage to quality, creativity and tradition. There is nothing I would change, there is nothing I wouldn’t want to wear, I just crave them all…What about you?
(more…)
Due to Sarah Burton’s last-stages of pregnancy, she presented a smaller collection, only comprising of ten looks, where each look required two weeks devotion. The McQueen-like craftsmanship however never disappoints; by showcasing beaded tights, excessed face cages and richly detailed collars in pure blacks and whites, Burton recalled the different characters of the Catholic church.
