Yesterday was rather special in the history of SilkSoFine: our team was lucky enough to be chosen for covering the very first ELLE Denmark Style Awards 2013 at the Royal Danish Theatre of Copenhagen. The cream of the Danish fashion industry, actors and actresses, stylish celebrities and fashionistas turned up to witness the handing-over of the prestigious awards to the nominees, who have made extraordinary and noteworthy performance in the past year. The Award show was opened by musician Thomas Troelsen and followed by a both spectacular fashion show comprises Denmark’s top three stylists and a full exclusive anniversary fashion show mixed ballet performance prepared by Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen on the occasion of the luxury jewelery brands 50th anniversary. For ELLE Style Awards there were awarded prizes in 15 categories – from the model and stylist of the year to designers and fashion brands. Cecilie Christiansen, editor of ELLE Denmark said: ‘Fashion is something that interests and inspires everyone and it is a great honor for us to give many Danish talents the recognition and attention they deserve. With ELLE Style Awards we want to give something back to the industry…’Among others Designers Remix, the band: Oh Land, stylist Dorothea Gundtoft behind the Fashion Scandinavia movement and Medina as style icon were awarded. The ELLE prize was given to Jacqueline Friis-Mikkelsen, who is the key driving force behind the international wave of popular Scandinavian models in the person of the Director of Unique Models. Hence we would like to say thank you to ELLE Denmark and Aller Media for having us and stay tuned, we have some more insights to share from the Event later this week.

(more…)

During Budapest Fashion Week, I ran into the beautiful model Csilla Kormendi, who gladly filled up my curious mind towards to the models’ world, and she talked about her fascination for her profession with all its downsides and glamour. Enjoy!

Reka ∣ SilkSoFine: I’ve heard of two types of starting up a model career: one either gets discovered randomly at the airport, on the street or in the local shopping mall at the age of 14, or with the intention of becoming a model, one prepares a portfolio and tries her/his luck at different model agencies. How was it with you? To which category do you belong?

Csilla: To be honest, I belong to a bit of both; for the first time I was solicited on the streets in my home town; Gyor, but it sounded a bit of a scam even though at the time I basically knew nothing about the modeling trade and its rules. Not much after an agent from ICON found me while I was messing around in a shopping mall in Budapest – at the time I was 19 and in my first year at University.  I had a watchful approach to them, but I slowly realized that I’m in  very good hands, and have no reason to worry. As soon as ICON signed me on, the best international agencies waited for me wherever I went.

Reka  SilkSoFine: What’s your background? Have you always been interested in the fashion industry; or rather just – so to say – fell into this world? (more…)
