Minju Kim collection – Models: Anais Pouliot & Marikka Juhler (All images: H&M)
Since we have previously featured the H&M Design Award, now it’s time to announce the winner in the person of talented Minju Kim, who has developed pieces from her collection with H&M to be sold at selected H&M stores this autumn, including Germany, UK or Denmark etc., as well as online. Minju, a 27 year-old graduate from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, was selected by a jury of international fashion experts for her collection, which transformed characters into outfits. The collection combines playfulness, fantasy and constant optimism, while merging a great deal of creativity with strong technical skills. Minju’s pieces for H&M bring the fantasy world of Manga to life with unique cuts and clever fabric combinations and yet applying bright colours on textured heavy knits in voluminous silhouettes. Minju is originally a designer from South Korea, who won the H&M Design Award 2013 with her collection titled ‘Dear My Friend’, inspired by Japanese Manga cartoonist Junji Ito, and received a €50,000 prize, a show at the Mercedes-Benz Stockholm Fashion Week in January 2013 and the chance to develop pieces from her collection with H&M. You can soon purchase the results of this amazing collaboration; October 17th – Save the date!

3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2013 (All images: Fairchild)
I guess we are in a little post-and pre fashion week panic in terms of finding the right bag that ‘swallows’ all the necessities such as laptops, iPads a bunch of origami invites and a pair of comfy shoes for the end of the day. While busy searching blogs, I bumped into the brilliant 3.1 Phillip Lim pre-fall 2013 collection and I couldn’t resist sharing with you some of my favourite snapshots of this sight-pleasing simplicity that the collection carries. The range of accessories include hip and chic pieces inspired by tough bikers, and urban allure through the eye of the statement-making Phillip Lim. I particularly appreciate the ease of achieving such beautiful toughness by cleverly dealing with colour and texture that flawlessly completes an outfit but it is also a functional piece for your day-to-day essentials. The collection discovers an array of cool, while staying certainly loyal to the Lim-like woman and yet satisfying sartorial cravings in terms of accessories such as bags, shoes, sunnies and iPad cases. Fashion Week season, here we come!
(more…)
What’s your favourite accessories-type, ladies; shoes, jewellery or bags? Either of them, you’ll probably turn out to be a bag-lover as you discover the brand new ‘Le Dix’ model from Balenciaga. The dark-toned Calfskin Cartable bag is the prettiest piece of Alexander Wang’s first handbag collection for the Parisian label. ‘The name, which is French for ten, alludes to the fashion house’s original address at 10 Avenue George V and the handbag having the ‘perfect ten’ in terms of craftsmanship.’ The beautifully structured, minimalist piece of the line of satchels is the perfect choice for the ladylike-but-modern woman, who wants simple yet functional quality in her wardrobe. I’m sure that these bags will not fail to toy with your heart however the trick is that some of us got used to the Balenciaga-like edgy glam, so decide it on your own whether Alexander’s aesthetic isn’t too simplistic and minimalistic. As for us, we couldn’t resist wearing it! What about you? PS The video was shot by Toby McFarlan Pond under the artistic direction of Wang to a song titled ‘Light Foot’ by Terry Devine-King.
(more…)
Today’s post draws inspiration from my experience last week, as I dropped by to Danish designer, artist and musician, Henrik Vibskov’s first solo exhibition, showcasing exclusively his artworks, catwalk installations and photography. His shows deliver the perfect harmony of garments-catwalk set-music, where fashion and art genuinely melts together. To look at other examples we can just take the eponymous Chanel shows, where the catwalk turns out being just as carefully and intentionally dressed as the models. The setting of a catwalk show is almost just as important for designers as their actual runway collections. The backdrop relates and enhances the significance of a collection’s theme and can intensify emotion or create a specific atmosphere of another ‘world’. Undoubtedly, a catwalk’s aesthetic can have a huge impact on fashion show attendees, but definitely so when it’s all seem to be in great harmony, and meant to impress and seduce the crowd. Those epic magic 15 mins of ‘excessive pleasure’, I call it, which encompasses a season’s creative effort and sweat.
(more…)
Following the SS13 monochrome trend our easter eggs are ready to be searched for in style ☺…
Happy Easter to all of you!
Christopher Raeburn‘s collections are some of those, which you would never ever mistake for an other designer’s. His key statement lies in such attributes as functional, sporty and feminine. The inspiration of his AW13 collection titled ‘Optics’ derives from the Maunsell Sea Forts – WWII naval defenses off the coast of England – the stark contrast between vivid naval colours and disruptive fort textures running throughout the collection. The innovation that Raeburn is dealing with in terms of creating and designing fabrics is more evident than ever. The function comes in picture when teflon is being added for the sake of the rainproofing effect. The Lightweight collection includes quilted outerwear lined with recycled material, military pieces in feminine shapes, stripes on stripes and layers upon layers. Raeburn sets the living proof that fashion can be practical and stylish at the same time.

During my previous stay in Paris, I ran into the eponymous diptyque Store on Boulevard St Germain, where it all begun back in 1961. It happened to be that three friends named Desmond Knox-Leet, Christiane Gautrot, and Yves Coueslant, all from the world of fine arts and décor, decided to open a store. It wasn’t a conventional one, mainly not at the time – they displayed and sold their own plain print designs, besides traditional British fragrances. Since then, guided by this rich heritage, the brand got widely known from its iconic oval shape logo with the number ’34’ on it, hence referring to the street number of the shop on Boulevard St Germain. By moving on the wallpapers and print designs, there was born a unique fragrance, one for both body and home, both encompassing love for the nature, through carefully chosen raw materials and yet giving them a clear, distinctive signature. Wrap yourself in luxury with diptyque products!

Once we had a project on whether shop interior attracts customers more, and if does so, in what way. Probably we all know the feeling when the shop’s interior perfectly matches our taste or dreamy desires; much of spacey square meters, fresh flowers in contemporary vases, a luxurious soft carpet and lots of brightness. On the other hand it can also be inviting when it’s out of our comfort zones, out of the convectional…ACNE is rather a bit of the latter; it has a great deal of modern edge by revealing almost a museum-like ‘do-not-touch’ feeling through the strictly organised hangers, but the twist is that it’s all yours: touch it, take a seat and try them on.
‘I wanted to take a very Swedish slant on history and environment. I was inspired by the Gustavian period of Swedish design, its cleanness and purity, thus to re-interpret that in a modern way. Stockholm is a series of islands, and I wanted to do a take on that. ‘ – Jonny Johansson ♡ ‘Ich wollte einen sehr schwedischen Blickwinkel auf Geschichte und Umgebung. (more…)
