Jason Wu is a Taiwanese-Canadian fashion designer based in New York City. He is most famous for designing the dresses of Michelle Obama on several occasions and to the woman with the crave for luxurious edge. To stick to the latter, Jason Wu invites women in each season to celebrate fashion as the most beautiful art expression. His Resort 2013 pieces embrace edgy effeminacy, delicate floral ornamentation and detail rich embellishments such as custom-made stones for Wu by Swarovski Elements. The designer playfully combined the dramatic pieces with basics in his collection that result a beautiful, yet cool mixture of styles. The garments furthermore spoke of quality and wearability that make his design even more desirable. Not to forget about the accessories, Jason mastered the bags as well that came in three-color combos and reflected the electric hues of the clothes, and also shoes ranged from evening sandals to pumps and fancy flats. All of it please!

H&M Design Award 2013 winner collection by Minju Kim (All images: H&M)
I’m sure most of you have heard about the H&M Design Award that supports the initiative of inviting students from 19 major fashion colleges in eight European countries to participate in a contest. Yearly, there are 24 students are given the opportunity to go to Stockholm to meet with H&M’s Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson and members of the design team in the first rounds, while in the second round the eight best designers get to show their collections in London. In 2012, Danish designer Stine Riis took the first price, while in 2013 the South Korean-born Antwerp-based designer Minju Kim won. Her collection ‘DEAR MY FRIEND’ explored the relationship of colours and textures by infusing the traditional with the contemporary in terms of techniques, shapes and cultural references. The Award aims to discover fresh talents from the best fashion universities all over the world, including: London, Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Milan etc. My personal message with this post is to encourage you to apply and try our yourselves in front of the big crowd if you are enrolled in one of the concerned universities.
(more…)
Givenchy Resort 2013 ( All images: Fairchild)
I wasn’t aware the fact how much I like resort collections until now, so on the basis of the ‘better later than never’ idea, I chose to introduce you one of my all-time-favourites. Before doing so, let’s claim what does the resort collection expression stand for; I would say resort collections are mixing a bit of the previous fall/winter silhouettes with the upcoming spring/summer collections. It’s a bit of a bridge between the seasons so to say. Even though the Givenchy Resort 2013 collection is not brand new, it had a great impression on me. The collection is like a geometric puzzle that matches the geometric blocks of black and white with swirling paisleys in shades of red, blue, and gold by recalling a contemporary gipsy flair. Riccardo Tisci, the Creative Director of the french fashion house exclusively balanced the contrast of romantic and sharp, while captured the mid-season’s slightly bohemian from-leaves-to-blossoms spirit. Givenchy presented an almost routine-like visual drama that merged the brand’s signature sharp tailoring, mismatched combinations and strong accessories that melted together with the garments.
(more…)
Blake Lively’s pale-green strapless Gucci Première confection featured a dramatic skirt with layers of black organza adorned with silver and matte black feather motif embroidered details. Excess and glamour in the right place, as it wears off from her. (more…)
