‘There is not an hour in a day when I don’t work’ – confessed Tom Ford in this documentary, that is the insight to the life of the world-renown designer; his view on fashion, work, and life in general. You will find some of the most inspiring quotes ever suppressed in the documentary, that is well worth the 40 minutes. Tom Ford had built an unmistakable fashion empire by the time he was 30 years old, starting off as head designer at Gucci, earning his way up in the fashion industry, besides lately directing films and being a multifaceted creative genius of the era, whose talent expand far beyond simply fashion. He explains “I believe in enhanced reality with fashion. Fashion creates a bit of a dream. That’s the whole point of I think dressing up, you feel better about yourself. It’s an enhanced version of who you are.” If this is the place for commercials, don’t miss watching his movie; A Single Man! It’s much more than just brilliant!

Whatever drives you; passion, hate, respect, envy, appreciation or fascination you cannot avoid the iconic name, Carine Roitfeld. A muse, a hero and a role model she in-personifies at once. I reckon that most of you shares my enthusiasm towards the much awaited movie, Mademoiselle C, that is a documentary focused on former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief and fashion stylist Carine Roitfeld – one of the most inspiring, authentic and inevitable woman of our era. Her words are blessed with thoughtfulness and honesty that touches you just like the following ones: ‘Vogue’s one of the biggest titles in the world, and when you get that title, you automatically get a sort of “crown” along with it. Not because of who you are, but because of the title you carry. So when I left Vogue, I gave back my uniform, my crown. But I’m not sad about it! I was there 10 years, and now, if I ever get another crown, it’ll be because of me—not because of where I work. Maybe this crown won’t be as beautiful, as full of diamonds…but I think it’ll be more personal, because I will have done it myself.’ If I would ever have to name an idol, it could only be her!

I’ve just recently come across Animale’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection – and backstage video made during their lookbook shooting – as browsing Sao Paulo Fashion Week’s website. The summer 2014 campaign from Animale star the always gorgeous model, Karlie Kloss who poses for Henrique Gendre in the dreamy video dressed in designs inspired by the island of Bali. Karlie Kloss is an American model mostly known for her work in Vogue US and runway dominance – and by the way she’s just turned 21. The Animale pieces this season are all about fluidity and drapery paired with bold prints and clashing patterns, while embracing asymmetric cuts. Besides all the fluidity and flowing silks, the accessories built in the garments gave sort of a structure and not least an edgy twist to the collection. Looks like fashion films are the must visual go-alongs with lookbooks and fashion campaigns in the season. Lanvin‘s AW13 fashion film is suggesting that one woman can have many faces; animating the same multiple personality concept which was featured in their campaign, the newly released video version is starring the beloved British-model, Edie Campbell playing six imaginary versions of herself. The short clip features menswear too; six different men with diverse points of view, expressing the diversity of the Lanvin man. The charming narration – which gave the film a cool and original touch talks about the meaning of love, uncool versus cool and what makes Lanvin what it is today besides not least promoting some of the statement pieces of the Paris-based label’s AW13 collection. The film was shot by American photographer Steven Meisel, with creative direction by Ronnie Newhouse and Stephen Wolstenholme of House + Holme.
Es sieht so aus, als ob Fashion-Filme diese Saison ein Muss sind als visuelle Begleiter für Lookbooks und Modekampagnen. Lanvins AW13 Fashion-Film zeigt, dass eine Frau viele Gesichter haben kann; dabei wurde das gleiche Konzept mit den multiplen Persönlichkeiten animiert, welches schon in ihrer Kampagne gezeigt wurde. I like Calvin Klein…I love the fragrances and when I saw the latest short film they created my heart was blown away – it was like a dream coming true…And why? Let’s start in the beginning before I get too excited. So it is all because the mini film features three of my beloved creatives in the persons of Rooney Mara actress, David Fincher director – who worked together on ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ and the ‘Social Network’ movies earlier, while the music is played by the must-see band called Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The film is using the effect of slow motion and Mara is only shown in black and white what makes it mysterious and enigmatic as ever in a rather moody atmosphere. Telling the story of an actress who goes from subway so effortlessly with a classy, laid back simplicity that Rooney and Calvin Klein have in common. Rooney told WWD: “It’s an honour to be part of a brand with such a legacy of breakthrough advertising. The Downtown fragrance holds true to the chic, confident and simple feeling of the Calvin brand. The effortless and timeless appeal of the Calvin Klein Collection and the Downtown scent made this a natural partnership.” More lovely films like this please!

I have already briefly mentioned Miu Miu’s Fall 2013 collection, which included polka dotted patterns matched with striped tights and fairytale-like shoes by referring to quite a fantasy-rich basis of inspiration. For its campaign video, Miu Miu takes nine models to the edge of a cinematic seaside scene photographed by the creative duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Besides a great deal of mystery and femininity the photographer duo manages to make the dancing models seem like a relatively unpleasant and grim way of spending time on the boat. The surreal images and postures are part of a recent trend (for example Raf Simons’ Dior campaign) in high-end advertising that juxtaposes models in intricate outfits against flat backgrounds doing moody yet slightly exaggerated moves. Models Katlin Aas, Emily DiDonato, Daphne Groeneveld, Georgia May Jagger, Adriana Lima, Marina Nery, Hind Sahli, Anne Verhallen, and Lindsey Wixson are the ones doing Miu Miu’s dance this time.

Elie Saab celebrates the arrival of its pre-fall 2013 collection in stores with a new short film titled, ‘Reflections’ – referring to the lucid reflections of endless mirrors in the film. The video stars the Lithuanian model Egle Tvirbutaite, who walks the halls of a mansion in beautifully tailored and detailed gowns – just like we got used to from Elie Saab. Enchanting and seductive, the Elie Saab woman walks with pure confidence for the pre-fall season; the whole rhythm and pulse of the video just as much as the pieces speak of effeminacy, edge, elegance by celebrating women. Tone-on-tone shades, rich embroidery, shine and sophisticated silhouettes feature the gowns, while the focus is on the woman and her vision of beauty. I also have to mention that it’s quite impressive as the song ‘Your Name’ by Lexy & K-Paul feat. Chefket provides the perfect tempo for this mysterious and seductively expressive ad.

Blumarine’s Fall 2013/14 campaign were shot and filmed by Swedish photographer Camilla Akrans who’s lenses are starring at the beautiful Candice Swanepoel who has just recently traded in her platinum blonde locks for a brunette hairdo. Swanepoel worked the camera seductively revealing the collection’s floral, sexy mesh and detailed lace while fully embodying the idea of the Blumarine woman. You can clearly see from the video as the pieces are embracing bright colors and skipping winter layers and instead going for staple pieces. The collection suggests romantic lightness of early autumn nights in which sophistication meets edge in the most perfect harmony. One thing is for sure; Blumarine’s designer Anna Molinari’s nickname sums her up perfectly: the queen of roses, on account of her fondness for these magical and sensual flowers which represent the image of the Blumarine label and symbolically embody its ideal of femininity – as does this lovely video by starring at Candice Swanepoel dressed in Fall 2013/14 Blumarine pieces.

This controversial fashion film is the result of the collaboration between Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton ‘s Art Director and Katie Grand, Editor-in-Chief of British LOVE Magazine, has rather split the crowd. Dutch fashion magazine Blend, titled their short film feature ‘Glamorises Prostitution’ by saying it all and indeedly right. The exclusive editorial video features the latest Louis Vuitton collection – where ‘underwear turned daywear’ was a concept – worn by models like Cara Delevingne, Edie Campbell, Georgia May Jagger or Isabeli Fontana as they are ‘doing their filthy jobs’ in the dark alleyways of Paris. I guess you need to have an open mind (a very open mind) to actually take in such sort of art, if it can be called one, and realise it’s purpose and creative side. Mostly Marc Jacobs has been blamed so far, by fashion critics, top lawyers, French parties etc…but when in this era fashion was about pure reality, innocence or anything ordinary? Frankly, never. There has always been seducing, fantasy, filth, fur; the things you want but know you will never be able to attain. The film will definitely propose further questions/scandals where there will be no conclusion; what was done once, cannot be undone, no matter how strongly Marc shifts off the responsibility to Katie.
