“Fashion Is Not about Buying a Second Skin. Fashion Is

The moment of weakness when you are face to face with the object of desire and the higher power seems to take over your sense. Any sense indeed and all you can do is to let it get you. I am regularly experiencing such occurrence when facing the immenseness that is created by Sabrina Dehoff. The Berlin-based jewelry designer has what it takes to be a design goddess and take over the ostensible main powers such as Tiffany & Co. . Yes I literally mean & Co. and I am asking myself, who will ever need this suspect light turquoise box when you can get Sabrina Dehoff’s designs? Well, contemplating the diamonds vs. gold-plated metal discussion I am out here. However it is fascinating me how exceedingly inventive and exceptionally visionary Sabrina creates her designs, forming a whole character around it and leaving the interpretation to the one wearing it. Having an endless, yet exceptional list of Spring/Summer 2014 collections to introduce you, let the careful selection kick off with the eponymous Italy-born-and-based label, Alberta Ferretti. Bold stripes, appliqué flowers and prints that ruled the catwalk for the moment, showcased multicoloured floral embroidery applied on delicious dresses that had a great folkloric feel. The garments, like a whole delicate unity spoke of dynamism, romantic, yet properly constructed pieces with the usage of technical tricks and twists. Regardless the folklore references, the very intriguing was as the Ferretti-like craftsmanship turned out to be the season’s beauty signature in terms of girlish sophistication, that both the viral colour palette and fresh styling supported. Probably like never before we witnessed the Ferretti woman in bloom – also very literally, through the inspiration of the South of Italy, picturing a sense of movement and style that truly appeals to the women in any age. PS We didn’t even buried the summer, the next is yet to come!

Since we have previously featured the H&M Design Award, now it’s time to announce the winner in the person of talented Minju Kim, who has developed pieces from her collection with H&M to be sold at selected H&M stores this autumn, including Germany, UK or Denmark etc., as well as online. Minju, a 27 year-old graduate from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, was selected by a jury of international fashion experts for her collection, which transformed characters into outfits. The collection combines playfulness, fantasy and constant optimism, while merging a great deal of creativity with strong technical skills. Minju’s pieces for H&M bring the fantasy world of Manga to life with unique cuts and clever fabric combinations and yet applying bright colours on textured heavy knits in voluminous silhouettes. Minju is originally a designer from South Korea, who won the H&M Design Award 2013 with her collection titled ‘Dear My Friend’, inspired by Japanese Manga cartoonist Junji Ito, and received a €50,000 prize, a show at the Mercedes-Benz Stockholm Fashion Week in January 2013 and the chance to develop pieces from her collection with H&M.
